About the Role

As Data Engineer in Asset Management, you will be working on technology initiatives maximizing groundbreaking data, cloud, and integration technologies. You will be involved in developing business applications, dealing with database, client side and server-side components, while working with some of the brightest and most thoughtful people who are set to make an impact on Asset Management. Within AM IT, the Business Steering squad builds analytical applications, tools and dashboards applying innovative digital analytics to deliver practical insights.

What will be your key responsibilities:

The ideal person will be someone who can work independently and deliver business value, working side-by-side with our data engineers and other technology professionals. This person will have a broad understanding of multiple programming concepts, Agile methodology, and will learn to craft modern systems in multiple sophisticated IT projects within the SDLC.

  • Work with stakeholders and product, design, back-end engineers, and front-end engineers
  • Align with business value streams and collaborate with the analytics squads on use-case design and delivery
  • Solve technical problems of various levels of complexity
  • Take ownership of code and expertly ship features, bug fixes, and improvements with support from other team members when needed
  • Stay on top of emerging trends and help the organization in making informed technology decisions

This position demands an ability to tackle problems, prioritize, and communicate proactively. The ideal candidate will have experience working backwards from the product design to understand the true requirements underlying feature requests.


About the Team

With more than USD 100 bn of assets under management, Swiss Re Asset Management manages the assets versus the liabilities generated through the core insurance and reinsurance business. With the advent of technologies such as cognitive computing, smart analytics or machine learning the asset management industry will radically change in the next years in terms of gaining insights to make better investment decisions and managing risk more effectively.

Asset Management IT ensures stable investment platforms and trade lifecycle management while delivering meaningful, timely financial data, enabling our customers to support AM's overall business performance. It also expands business process automation and efficiency across the value chain through workflow solutions and robotics development.

What experience should you have:

Essentials

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, information technology or related field
  • 3+ years of work experience in an agile digital product development environment
  • Knowledge of SQL and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle
  • Strong understanding of data modelling, ETL processes and data warehousing concepts
  • Strong programming skills in Python
  • Experience in business intelligence platforms (Power BI)
  • Familiarity with common tech stacks and innovative API technologies
  • Experience with modern DevSecOps practices
  • Advanced communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a high availability, high-performance team environment

Advantageous Additional Skills

  • Understanding of the Asset Management value chain and various products such as equities, fixed income, derivatives
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or Ansible
  • Hands on experience with cloud computing platforms such as Azure, AWS or GCP (Azure preferred)
  • Experience with Data frameworks (Elasticsearch, Spark/PySpark, Kafka)
  • Ability to work with data technologies such as Hadoop and NoSQL database
